PARAMPARA 2012- A tryst with tradition

Parampara was the brainchild of Pro-Vice chairman, DPS, Sharjah Mr. Dinesh Kothari. He thought of an event that would strengthen our bond with our motherland and our culture and not only confine it to our textbooks but truly beyond it. This dream was realized by the guidance provided by our Principal, Mrs. Vandana Marwaha and the hard work of the Hindi department of our school, combined with the enthusiasm of our young bright minds.

The inaugural ceremony of Parampara got off to an inspiring and magnificent start on 23rd January at the new auditorium at DPS, Sharjah.

The event started with a rousing welcome for our guests. It was graced by the presence of Mr. Ashok Chandra (Chairman of the DPS Society) and he was accompanied by Mr. Dinesh Kothari (pro-vice chairman), Mr. P.S.Dasgupta(Director of DPS Sharjah) and Dr.D.R. Saini (Principal DPS, RK Puram) , Mrs. RashmiNandkeolyar(Principal DPS, Dubai)  ,Mr. Ali Khayyal (Chairman of DPS, Sharjah) and Mr. RamanMarwaha (Vice-President ILFS). The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem of UAE followed by the original national anthem of India sung by the children of the Primary Wing to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

A surprise for our audience was a welcome dance ‘Suprabhatam’ performed by the parents of the students of our school. Another dance ‘Tarangam’ was performed by the students of our school which was appreciated by an overwhelming applause by the audience.

In her enlightening speech, Mrs. Vandana Marwaha praised the initiative taken by the Hindi Department in adopting an innovative approach. She also said that Parampara 2012 is not just a competition but it’s an attempt to awaken the spirit of attachment towards our country and language because it’s our duty to keep our culture, language and tradition with us while continuing our growth. The other two speeches were given to our young audience by our distinguished guests Mr. Ashok Chandra and Mr. Dinesh Kothari. This was followed by the release of a book, written by the budding writers of none other but our own school DPS, Sharjah from the club ‘Word No Limit’,  that was truly appreciated by our guests.

Finally the event kick-started with a magnificent show of grandeur and worth with the lighting of the lamp by Mr. Ashok Chandra.

The three events namely Abhivyakti, Jeevan Yatra and Anugoonj were meticulously planned and the participating schools endured a nail biting competition.

Anugoonj-A unique opportunity for the young generation to portray and bring to life the stories written by world renowned writers of Hindi literature. Each school performed with great enthusiasm and portrayed exceptional acting skills. Each story put forth didactic messages such as ‘Say no to corruption’, ‘Respect your elders’. All in all it was very inspiring for young people to incorporate these messages as values in their lives and also walk in the footsteps of such great writers.

Jeevan Yatra- A quiz with a lot of innovative rounds, Jeevan Yatra saw the top 6 schools pitted against each other. The most challenging rounds were Dumb Charades and the Rapid Fire Round.

Abhivyakti- A power point presentation, based on the self-authored, creative short stories of the students was the highlight of the event. Heart rending accounts written by the students were presented with beautiful presentations.
